Strategic Planning for Affordable Housing Network

Clients:

In 2006 and 2008, CBI has helped the Community Land Trust Network (the Network) by facilitating annual strategic planning efforts by the Board of Directors. The Network was formed in 2005 to provide services to member organizations that provide long-term affordable housing in communities across the country. These multiple-day sessions led to the creation of annual strategic plans the Network follows laying out hiring, financial and programmatic goals for the organization.
CBI worked with planning committees to plan efficient, well thought out, full day sessions. The objectives were to develop agendas designed to help Board members develop strong relationships, surface and work through items of contention, and effectively identify high priority, shared goals and objectives. Facilitating intensive large and small group sessions often late into the night, CBI staff helped Board members work through differences and commit to future tasks. Topics of discussion included such things as developing workplans, budget, staffing, visioning, board practices and committee structure.
The Network works to share best practices with members and to spread the word nationally about the community land trust model of affordable housing, and CBI is pleased to have been able to help the Network in its early years to think and plan strategically.
