CBI (with CBI Partner Raab Associates, Ltd.) collaborated with the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) to design and facilitate the National Energy Policy Initiative. The Initiative’s goal was to build consensus on national energy policy among a diverse group of distinguished energy experts, and to bring that expert consensus to the attention of policy makers in Congress and the Executive branch.

Since 1998, CBI has worked closely with the Indian Taxation Advisory Board (ITAB) and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) to help improve relationships and negotiations among First Nations and the gas and oil industry.

CBI, in partnership with Kearns & West and Jonathan Raab of Raab Associates, Ltd., have delivered training to over two-hundred agency and stakeholder participants engaged in the relicensing of hydroelectric dams.

With contracts providing two-thirds of Vermont’s electric power beginning to expire in the next four years, the future source of Vermont's electricity was open for examination. To help the state engage Vermont’s citizens in discussions about their energy future, the Consensus Building Institute and Jonathan Raab Associates helped lead a statewide public engagement process. Over 700 citizens participated in the workshops which included presentations, facilitated discussions, key pad polling, and public comment.

Facing the possibility of a proposed five-turbine wind farm on Little Equinox Mountain in Manchester, Vermont, the Orton Family Foundation initiated a citizen engagement process to explore citizen’s interests and concerns regarding the proposed wind farm. Over a period of four months, the Consensus Building Institute guided a team through an intense planning, issues exploration, and public outreach process, which included four-topic specific information sharing meetings and culminated in a day-long Wind Summit.

Learn how CBI is assisting PJM Interconnection, the country's largest wholesale electricity supplier, improve their stakeholder process. With over 600 member companies, 56,000 miles of transmission lines, and 51 million customers, PJM Interconnection has a complex system for addressing stakeholder issues and concerns. Responding to PJM's desire to streamline this system, CBI and Raab Associates interviewed member companies, held focus groups, and carefully inventoried stakeholder concerns. After receiving the results of this assessment, PJM decided to undertake a facilitated process to implement CBI and Raab Associates' recommendations.
